Flash Ficton Workshops

I am currently facilitating free, online creative writing workshops for friends and family. These are true workshops, allowing me to learn and practice my craft alongside participants. Instead of a class, think of it as a container — a space to generate work, find a creative community, or simply to have an accountability check. I facilitate by gathering the texts, leading discussion, and providing prompts.

TESTIMONIALS

“The Flash Fiction Workshop proved to be the outlet for expression I didn't know I needed: a hodgepodge group of soul-writer brothers and sisters with our fearless leader at the helm. Maggie gently took us into new terrain for imagination, sharing an entertaining and accessible form that allows for creativity and collegiality. Writing, rewriting and sharing ... all important moments in the process and Maggie gave ample time to explore them all.”

“Maggie facilitated a brave and joy-filled space. She welcomed vulnerability and ideas while guiding the group through learning, listening and sharing. I looked forward to each week's time together, and Maggie's calm and caring leadership!”

I signed up for Maggie's flash fiction workshop hoping simply for some accountability and a sense of community, but I left with many more ideas and tools than I'd expected. Maggie's planning and preparation for each workshop session provided clarity and a helpful structure. Her selection of mentor texts, in particular, was supremely thoughtful, and her prompting motivated us to emulate the techniques we most admired in each week's readings. Maggie's facilitation was responsive and transparent, and it invited hearty participation and even vulnerability. My confidence in sharing my writing grew each week, and I finished the workshop ready to continue work on the draft I developed in class.

I absolutely loved this flash fiction class! I found it to be incredibly well-structured - each session was engaging and well thought out, and offered a perfect balance of discussion, writing prompts, and time to focus on our own work. I especially appreciated that writing time was built into the class, as sometimes it can be hard to make the space to sit down and write on your own. I really appreciated the supportive environment, and feel very encouraged to keep writing. Would highly recommend!

I did not know what Flash Fiction was until I took the workshop with Maggie, who explained well and provided materials ahead of the class to prepare for what was coming. She found creative ways to prompt my writing and her calm and reassuring manner allayed my feelings of trepidation about sharing my writing with others.

Maggie's flash fiction workshop was wonderful! I haven't written creatively since college but have always wanted to get back into it. This workshop was the perfect way to ease into a creative writing practice. I appreciated the format, which typically included a brief intro to the writing form, time to read a professional piece, time to write, and opportunities to share. As a busy mom, I especially loved that the class included dedicated writing time and took place during the typical toddlers' nap time. Maggie created a warm, welcoming space for us to share our early drafts. I loved the class and would recommend it to anyone, regardless of their writing experience or comfort level.
